In game I consider this part of the city population packing up and leaving. So should I keep the Shogun 2-era tactic of trying to conserve my best three leaders with option D (of course, lesser leaders make thier stand in option B) and only use B when i have a good shot, or as the Western Roman Empire should I be favoring B more than earlier titles? I consider position of my army and the enemy's likely path of attack, but I never thought of taking advantage of that so that the city instea dof the field army gets attacked. I also look for densible terriain like river crossing, hills, and forests. As the Western Roman Empire, you might want a victory more than you want to save the leader since the ehat is always on.Īh, your advice of putting the army behind city is sound. But in Shogun 2 and Rome 2, you usually have the luxury of not having an economy that can support several armies, good public order, and not the whole world hating you (except realm divide.). In these cases, I'd be hesitant to do B without a 75% chance of winning (based on my own skills). Occationally there is this awesome general I don't want to lose. With most commanders I'd do it in a heartbeat like you. If this in not an option go for D by having the army stand behind the city the AI will most likely attack the city instead of walking around it (it doesnt always work though) But this only works if I have another army prepared to retake. Plenty of people on YouTube like Jackie tried to go for C when they really didn't want to lose the general.ĭ sounds more attractive than C, but I don't know how to invoke D it in earlier titles and I'm not sure it can be done here either. In this game, most cities don't have walls at game start. In earlier titles, B often worked if the enemy forgot to bring cavalry to muck your troops around once the walls are scaled and the gates fly open to let them in. If you win, you can even randsom the enemy for cash and get your retreating army to safety.

Unfouantatly, in Shogun 2 and Rome 2, 25% of the time this results in the army in the field being attacked.ī theoretically offers the highest probability of succecs, but the consequences of failure is servere. Assuming the enemy is at the end of its movement when it reaches your army, that means your army gets to fight, inflict damage, and live to fight another day and he doesn't have enough movement to follow.ĭ) You could put the army just outisde the city and hope he attacks the city and not the army. Unfortunatly this means you have NO RETREAT, so even "survivors" die.Ĭ) You could put the army just outside the city and prepare for a fight in the field where the garrision recnforces. Your small army has a leader you really don't want to lose.ī) You could put the army inside the city. The small army is next to an unwalled city you didn't intend to keep in the long term. A huge enemy stack is mid distance away and outnumbers your army 3 to 1.
